 Symposium at the Hilton, Sandton
On the 19th of March 2009, prior to their official launch, iThemba Pharmaceuticals held a symposium at the Hilton in Sandton, Johannesburg
were some of its prominent scientific advisory board members, Prof. Dennis Liotta and Prof. Eric Carreira, gave presentations geared towards development in medicinal chemistry.
Other presentations were given by Dr. Yves J. Ribeill from Synexis, USA and Dr. Alexis Nzila from Kenyan Medical Institute. Apart from the overseas speakers, prominent scientists, Prof. Jo Michael from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg and Prof. Perry Kaye from Rhodes University, Grahamstown, presented some of their work. Many of the organic chemistry departments from universities throughout South Africa and fellow South African scientists were invited. Students and scientists were encouraged to present posters of their work.
The symposium was well attended and well received.
