Biography

Professor Steven V. Ley has been the BP (1702) Professor of Chemistry at the University of Cambridge since 1992. He was a lecturer at Imperial College in 1975, promoted to Professor in 1983, and Head of Department in 1989. In 1990 he was elected to the Royal Society (London) and was President of The Royal Society of Chemistry from 2000-2002.

Steve has published 684 papers to date and his work has been rewarded with prestigious awards and accolades. His recent awards include the Paracelsus Prize, the Heinrich Wieland Prize, the Tetrahedron Prize, the Perkin Prize for Organic Chemistry, the High Throughput Drug Discovery Methodologies Award, the Prous Institute-Overton and Meyer Award for New Technologies in Drug Discovery and the Hans Heroff Inhoffen Medal. Steve has also been the recipient of 82 named lectureships and given 328 special invited lectures. He has served on 42 national and international committees, 45 editorships and many industrial science advisory boards. He has been awarded honorary degrees and fellowships from the Universities of Loughborough, Salamanca, Imperial College, London, Huddersfield and Cardiff.
